Addition Financial’s “MicrOviedo” Branch Featured in News 6 Report
Oviedo, Fla (November 21, 2023) — Some young Seminole county students are doing some big things in Addition Financial Credit Union’s smallest “branch”.
Stenstrom Elementary School principal, Jake Novak, gave News 6 (WKMG-TV) anchor, Julie Broughton, a tour of downtown MicrOviedo, part of the Oviedo school’s MicroSociety, a project-based learning model in schools around the world that launched in 2021.
In MicrOviedo, there are businesses like the Addition Financial branch, a Supply Station, a news network, and Stenstrom Harvest. The businesses are managed by students in the third through fifth grade.
Holton Mills is a specialist with the Community Engagement team at Addition Financial. He was a student teller in high school, and said helping with MicrOviedo is a full-circle moment for him.
“We have a loan officer that’s handing out mortgages to these kiddos and our HR team came in and actually did customer service training with all of them. So, they all have our customer service training that our HR team does to all new employees,” Mills said.
